Poornima Apte

Before I switched to technology content marketing writing, I trained as an engineer, specializing in materials science and mechanical engineering. In my heart I always knew I wanted to be a writer. I came at it organically when I switched to technical writing after working for years as an engineer. As a technical writer, I spoke to engineers and translated their language into documentation for manuals for a finite elements analysis software company.

From technical writing, I moved to straight-up reporting for an ethnic newspaper and moved on to become editor of two retail trade magazines. It was here that l learned how the content sausage is made. I learned about deadlines and production and editorial holes. I bring this knowledge with me today and understand what it is like on the other side of the production fence.

I eventually decided to write about all technologies– and the people that drive them– and launched my freelance business in 2015. While I had dabbled in freelance on the side, this was when I went in full-time.

Today, I write about all technologies– robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), data intelligence, engineering, cybersecurity– for a variety of B2B companies and agencies. My clients include agencies and multinational companies: MIT, Dell Technologies, Leidos, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The American Society of Civil Engineers, Chemical & Engineering News, Forbes Brand Studio, and more.

I am a member of the National Association of Science Writers and a professional member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
