ASJA Announces New Officers and Directors

New York, NY: July 13, 2012

Minda Zetlin has taken office as the President of the American Society of Journalists and Authors effective July 1, 2012. She succeeds Salley R. Shannon, who served three years as president of the nation’s professional organization of independent nonfiction writers. Minda has served in various capacities on ASJA’s Board of Directors for several years, most recently as Vice President, and co-chaired the ASJA Conference in 2005 and 2006.

Minda is an author, speaker, and journalist whose work has appeared in publications from Inc. to New York to Computerworld. She is the author or co-author of several books, most recently The Geek Gap: Why Business and Technology Professionals Don’t Understand Each Other and Why They Need Each Other to Survive. She lives in Woodstock, N.Y. with her husband Bill Pfleging, a large collection of computers and mobile devices, and four cats.

Taking office as Vice President is Gina Roberts-Grey of Baldwinsville, NY. Gina was the ASJA Conference Director in 2010 and 2011, and served as ASJA Secretary for a term. She is also chair of ASJA’s Upstate New York regional chapter. Gina is a prolific independent writer whose specialties include celebrity profiles and Q&As, health, nutrition, personal finance, credit, credit cards, insurance and consumer issues.

Randy Dotinga (San Diego CA) becomes ASJA’s Treasurer, and Sandra E. Lamb (Denver CO) steps in as Secretary. Also joining the Board is Sandra Beckwith (Fairport NY), Beverly Gray (Santa Monica CA), and Sherry Beck Paprocki (Granville OH).

ASJA Board members serve for three years. Continuing their current terms are Damon Brown (San Diego CA), Laird Harrison (Oakland CA), Mickey Goodman (Atlanta GA), Linda Melone (Coto de Caza CA), Brooke Stoddard (Alexandra VA), and Holly Tucker (Nashville TN). Salley Shannon (Derwood MD) and Russell Wild (Allentown PA) remain on the Board as the two past presidents.
