NEW YORK (November 9, 2023): The American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), the leading professional organization of freelance nonfiction writers, has named its interim executive director.

Dirk Lammers

Dirk Lammers, CAE, partner at Cetera Services LLC, will serve as ASJA’s interim executive director. Lammers, an experienced association leader, has earned the highest professional credential in the association industry, the Certified Association Executive (CAE), from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

Prior to becoming an association executive, Lammers had a long career as a journalist. He spent more than two decades writing and editing for the Associated Press and the Tampa Tribune. Lammers has also authored two books: Baseball’s No-Hit Wonders: More Than a Century of Pitching’s Greatest Feats (Unbridled Books, 2016) — a 2016 Foreword Reviews Silver Award winner — and Forward Sioux Falls: Advancing Our Region’s Economy Through Vision, Strategy, and Collaboration (Throne Publishing, 2021).

“With a career firmly rooted in journalism and steeped in association management, Dirk could not be better suited to guide ASJA into the future,” ASJA president Emily Paulsen said. “Not only does he meet ASJA’s exacting standards for membership, Dirk understands the unique joys and challenges of a freelance writing career.”

Lammers and Cetera Services began working with ASJA in October after a comprehensive search process.

“ASJA has a rich history of serving the freelance nonfiction writing community since 1948, and I’m excited to work on behalf of journalists and writers who have a deep passion for their craft,” Lammers said. “I look forward to partnering with ASJA’s dedicated volunteers to guide the organization on a path toward another 75 years of success.”

In addition to Dirk, Angela Lammers, CAE, Cetera Services’ managing partner, will consult with ASJA on marketing strategies and execution. Following a long career in corporate marketing, she founded Cetera Services in 2015.
