How SJN’s Complicating the Narratives Framework Will Enrich Your Articles

July 10, 2025, 1:00 pm-2:00 pm ET

Freelancing

Come share in this conversation with Jules Hotz, fellowships manager for Solutions Journalism Network, and author of her first book The Connection Cure (Simon & Schuster, 2024). We’ll break down the Complicating the Narratives (CTN) framework SJN developed to enable journalists to explore both sides of complex and often polarizing issues – the economy, gun violence, healthcare, immigration, political conflicts, war. SJN has proven when reporters use these strategies, they listen better, ask more revealing questions, effectively introduce opposing viewpoints, and embrace nuance in their reports. They learn to tell more accurate, richer, and fuller stories. ASJA board member Christopher Johnston will moderate.
