Marijke Vroomen Durning

Marijke Vroomen Durning, RN, is a health and wellness writer. After many years of working with patients, families, and the community, Marijke decided to use her nursing knowledge to develop a rich and rewarding career as a writer. She’s one of the original “nurse writers” because when Marijke began writing health content, there weren’t many nurses taking on this role. In fact, for the 16 years that she ran the award-winning blog, Marijke: Nurse Turned Writer, if you typed “nurse writer” into Google, her name consistently turned up as one of the top three hits.

Marijke has written for many print and online outlets, such as Medscape, WebMD, NextAvenue.org, Costco Connection, Sepsis Alliance, Forbes.com, MSN, CURE, and many more. She has also developed and redesigned website content for various health organizations. When Marijke worked with patients, she learned about the many ways that people could misunderstand instructions and advice on how to take medications, even over-the-counter ones. She realized her dream of writing a book about it. The result was her book Just the Right Dose: Your Smart Guide to Prescription Drugs & How to Take Them Safely

Looking at Marijke’s clips, you will see that much of her writing is devoted to educating members of the public, but she also writes for her peers, other healthcare professionals. She enjoys the challenge of changing voice and tone, and approach, to articles when she writes for different audiences.

Although she is based in Montreal, Canada, the majority of Marijke’s clients are in the United States. So whether you’re in the U.S. or Canada (or elsewhere), she can meet your writing needs.

Interested in quilting and related crafts? Marijke is also an accomplished quilter and has written many articles on this beautiful art.
