Judah Freed

Judah Freed is a seasoned journalist and award-winning author of Making Global Sense: Grounded hope for democracy and the earth inspired by Thomas Paine’s Common Sense.

Judah has won three Nautilus Book Awards, a Benjamin Franklin Book Award, an Eric Hoffer Book Award, and was nominted for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He’s also an educator, speaker and indie publishing consultant. Judah serves on the ASJA First Amendment and Banned Books committees along with representing ASJA on the steering committee of the Banned Books Week Coaltiion

Judah Freed

Entering journalism in 1976, he worked a decade as a writer and editor for Denver and Colorado newspapers and magazines. After more schooling, he  worked two decades writing for the top U.S. and European media industry trade magazines, pioneering coverage of the emergent internet, interactive TV and distance learning. His writings about media social effects, privacy rghts, “deep media literacy” and network democracy drew calls to speak on four continents. In 2010, he moved to Kauai and worked a decade editing publications in Hawaii. Returning home to Colorado in 2020, he now works for a national news service while focusing on his latest book:

Judah has a 1988 double BA in journalism and communication from the University Without Walls at Loretto Heights College (Regis). In the Individualized MA program at Antioch, he researched rhetoric, organizational cultures and public communication. He earlier studied creative writing with John Schultz and Betty Shifflet in The Story Workshop at Columbia College Chicago.

Judah is a cancer survivor, lovingly divorced and lives in Colorado on planet Earth.
