Brittany VanDerBill

Brittany VanDerBill is a freelance writer and messaging consultant specializing in supporting leaders, coalitions, and organizations navigating complex policy issues—especially around labor, workforce freedom, and independent work. She takes what’s happening in legislation or regulation and translates it into plain English so candidates, business groups, or lawmakers can respond clearly and effectively. As a former insurance agent with experience in public policy engagement and advocacy, she understands how to navigate complex content and make it relatable.

In the past few years, Brittany has:

  • Served on a state task force focused on worker misclassification
  • Briefed lawmakers and agency leaders
  • Strategically communicated the real-world impact of policy
  • Tracked and translated legislation and regulation into messaging that informs and inspires advocacy

For over a decade, Brittany has run her own business, writing and editing thought leadership content, web copy, articles, emails, letters, and press releases for clients across several industries including insurance, healthcare, policy, and technology. Her work has also appeared in publications such as Business Insider, Better Homes & Gardens, Travel + Leisure, HerMoney, People, Minnesota Monthly, and U.S. News & World Report.

Whether she’s writing for a travel publication or crafting messaging for a state legislative campaign, she adapts her tone to reflect her client’s voice and vision. She enjoys working with clients to draw out their expertise, clarify their message, and deliver content that connects.

Community involvement and political advocacy are important to Brittany. Since 2016, she has supported marketing and communications for a state legislative re-election campaign. From 2023–2024, she served as an appointed member of the Minnesota Attorney General’s Task Force on Worker Misclassification, advocating for independent contractors. She’s also an active member of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on their Public Policy Committee since 2021 and as a board member since 2025.
