It’s back! ASJA’s well-regarded client networking event, Virtual Client Connections (also known as VCC) returns on Nov. 12 and 13. Past clients include Slate, Landscape Architecture Magazine and Boston Globe/StudioB.
This year, writers have seen assignments dry up and regular clients cut their budgets, so it’s the perfect time to bring back one of ASJA’s favorite events, Virtual Client Connections. VCC is best described as the little sister to Client Connections, ASJA’s signature pitch event held during the annual conference. While Client Connections hosts between 40 and 60 clients, VCC hosts no more than 12. Beginning in November, ASJA will host VCC twice a year. It’s a one-on-one opportunity for members to pitch story ideas to representatives from media outlets and corporate departments eager to work with new writers.
How Virtual Client Connections Work
VCC is a three hour-long, two-day virtual pitch event. It will take place on Thurs., Nov. 12 and Fri., Nov. 13 from Noon ET to 3 p.m. ET.
As part of VCC, between nine and 12 clients will offer up one-hour of their time to meet with up to six members. Professional members who have registered and paid for VCC will have nine-minute, one-on-one meetings with clients from media outlets, communications departments and content agencies. VCC does not include literary agents or publishing houses.
Check the VCC page often to see the growing list of participating clients.
How to Participate in VCC
To register for VCC, you must be an ASJA professional member in good standing. Like Client Connections, VCC is run through a lottery system which requires a two step sign-up process:
- First, register for VCC between Noon ET on Thurs. Oct. 29 and 11:59 p.m. ET on Mon., Nov. The registration link will be available Oct. 29. Registration for VCC will close once the 40 available slots have filled up.
- Second, all members registered for VCC will receive an email from ASJA with a link to the lottery page. This form is your wish-list for the client meetings. Registered members who fill out the lottery form are guaranteed one client meeting. The lottery will be open for two days, from Noon ET Tues., Nov. 3 through 11:59 p.m. ET on Nov. 4. ASJA does not want anyone to miss out. Slots will fill up fast. Once the Nov. 4 deadline has passed, you (paid registrants) are not guaranteed to get two editor slots/preferred editor slots. Complete the lottery form by the Nov. 4 deadline for the best chance at a second client connection meeting.
ASJA will run the lottery on Nov. 5.
On Nov. 6, members will receive their meeting schedule with a link to their meetings by email from ASJA.
