Geoff Williams

Geoff Williams is a freelance journalist and the author of about a dozen books, some of which are corporate histories (books that companies hired him to write; he has written the histories of a Dayton, Ohio orthopedic hospital, a construction residential home building firm in Northern Kentucky and an HVAC contracting firm in Sharonville, Ohio, among others), and four well-reviewed nonfiction narratives that are in bookstores right now.

Williams has, over the course of his freelance journalism career, has had his work published in numerous publications, including The Washington Post, CNNMoney.com, Newsweek, Buy Side from WSJ, LIFE, Ladies’ Home Journal, Consumer Reports and Al-Jazeera America. He is a long-time contributor to the HuffPost and (since 2013) a regular contributor with U.S. News & World Report.

His books – the ones in bookstores – include C.C. Pyle’s Amazing Foot Race, the true story about a foot race like no other, that took place in 1928, from California to New York City, and Washed Away, a killer flood in 1913 that terrorized about a third of the country, and The Summer of Death (in bookstores June 2, 2026), about America’s deadliest heat wave, which happened all the way back in 1936.

Williams has written for trade magazines, covering topics as diverse as sheet metal and the snow and ice removal industry. He also has written extensively for public relations firms, writing everything from speeches to op-eds to white papers.

You can learn more about him at his LinkedIn page, and you could learn more about him at his website, if he weren’t too cheap to pay somebody to design one for him. “I’ve got bills, and my kids’ college student loans to pay for,” he complains. You should hire him – or buy one of his books – and then maybe he’ll finally put up a website.
