Advocacy, ASJAASJA is offering this webinar at a time when it seems like there are daily infringements to the First Amendment, independent contractors are under threat, books are being banned, journalists are continually harassed and media organizations are disappearing. Join us to catch up on important news. We’ll answer a lot of questions during this hour-long event, which will feature updates by several members of ASJA’s First Amendment and Advocacy Committee. What is ASJA doing to take a stand against First Amendment infringements by the current administration? Are freelancer rights still under threat? How can journalists better protect themselves? What are the movements afoot that deserve our attention? Should we be writing more about infringements on free speech? All of this and more will be part of the discussion. Walk away with tips and suggestions for how you can better act and react to threats against the United States Constitution.

Michael Bobelian is an author, journalist, and attorney who has written extensively about legal matters and has taught media law and ethics at Baruch College.
Debbie Abrams Kaplan is Co-Chair of ASJA’s First Amendment Committee as well as a journalist and content marketing writer specializing in medical/health, personal finance/insurance/business and supply chain topics.
Judah Freed is an award-winning author and seasoned journalist based in Colorado. His foremost book is Making Global Sense: Grounded hope for democracy and the earth (inspired by Thomas Paine’s Common Sense). Darcy Lewis, ASJA President, writes about health, medicine, and the business of healthcare from Chicago. She also writes for leading health systems and nonprofits and has received various writing awards, including the ASJA Best Trade Article Award.
A writer and editor based in the DC area, ASJA Immediate Past President Emily Paulsen focuses on health and healthcare topics for online and print publications, healthcare organizations, government agencies, and non-profit associations. She is the co-author of three books and a former magazine editor.
