On August 12, ASJA member and award-winning independent journalist Carol Brzozowski will share how she was assigned a DEAI story and won a 2025 AZBEE Mid-Atlantic Region Silver Award of Excellence in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category for her article, “Building Better Culture” for Irrigation & Lighting magazine.

Charmaine Seitz is a writer, designer, and analyst. She is writing a memoir about the nearly two decades she spent reporting on politics and religion from the Palestinian town of Ramallah for The Economist, The Nation, San Francisco Chronicle, In These Times, and other publications. In her career, she has managed several types of newsrooms, working with reporters and writers across national boundaries and languages. Charmaine and her team at Pennsylvania-based Seitz Communications produce writing, editing, design, and grant proposals for non-profit organizations, focusing on gender equality, child rights, refugees and displacement, and conflict situations.
