Ashley Cisneros Mejia

Ashley Cisneros Mejia is a freelance journalist, editor, and writer and has been writing professionally since 2005. She writes about business, entrepreneurship, the Latino/Latinx community, women’s issues, law, health, tech, and more.

Ashley spent many years delivering communications products including articles, advertorials, speeches, case studies, white papers, ebooks and more to individuals, companies, and publications. In addition to working as a professional freelance writer, she has been employed as a newspaper reporter for the Lake City Reporter, editor at Florida Trend business magazine, technical writer, marketing manager, and PR practitioner. While at Florida Trend, Ashley served as the editor of the company’s teen magazine, Florida Trend’s NEXT, a publication that helps Florida high school students prepare for life after graduation.

Her work has appeared in USA Today, New York Magazine, Hispanic Executive Magazine, LatinaStyle, and other publications. She has written for corporate clients including MassMutual and Cigna Healthcare. Early in her career, Ashley served as a copy editor and statistical aide for the University of Florida Bureau of Economic and Business Research, and contributed to publications including the Florida Statistical Abstract.

As a professional speaker, Ashley has presented trainings on journalism, communications, marketing, and social media at conventions for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and Crime Stoppers USA, to name a few. A multifaceted entrepreneur, she founded two award-winning digital marketing agencies.

Ashley shares what she’s learned in journalism and business through her platform for women, Talk Freelance To Me. She hosts the Talk Freelance To Me Podcast and YouTube channel, where she interviews creative freelance entrepreneurs.

When she is not working, Ashley enjoys giving back. She has served on the boards of three non-profits and volunteered on the board of directors for a national Hispanic women’s group. In this role, she coordinated new member procedures for more than 100 undergraduate chapters. Before that, she served as a regional representative for a national fraternal association. In this capacity, Ashley worked as an advocate for almost 90 chapters across nine states. She chaired committees, managed websites, helped execute three national conventions.

Ashley was named Citizen of the Month by the Orange County Florida District 1 Commissioner for her work in successfully advocating for a public library in her neighborhood. Ashley led a grassroots residential campaign and gathered nearly 11,000 petition signatures over the two-year effort. In 2012, UNITY Journalists of Color selected Ashley as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists winner for its New U: News Entrepreneurs Working Through UNITY start-up business camp and competition. She won $10,000 in seed money. Ashley was also named one of Orlando’s 40 Under 40 and a “Women to Watch” finalist by the Orlando Business Journal and Outstanding Young Female Leader by La Prensa newspaper. Honored by the Women’s Executive Council of Orlando for achievements in media and communications, Ashley earned a B.S. in Journalism and an M.S. in Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida.
