Idea Marketplace

Welcome to the American Society of Journalists and Authors Idea Marketplace page. Here you'll find everything you need to know about the Idea Marketplace -- your opportunity to present your or your client's message to more than 600 professional journalists who'll be attending ASJA's Annual Writers Conference on Friday and Saturday, April 11 & 12, 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.

What is the Idea Marketplace?

It's a trade show for story ideas. As an exhibitor, you'll be able to promote your or your client's stories to more than 600 professional journalists who'll be attending ASJA's Annual Writers Conference on Friday and Saturday, April 11 & 12, 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Attendees will be free to browse the IM throughout the day, allowing constructive relationships to develop between writers and exhibitors.

What our exhibitors say about Idea Marketplace

Idea Marketplace helped me increase media coverage for our organization by making contact with freelancers and writers, a group that I had been missing unless they contacted me. I found that Idea Marketplace also offered the opportunity for me to meet many of my peers in the public relations business and offered opportunity to network and partner with other like groups. -- Lahne Curry, National Association of Social Workers

Who'll be exhibiting at the Idea Marketplace?

The tabletop displays will be available to virtually anyone with a story to tell. Public relations agencies, businesses, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), government agencies, and even individuals.

Who'll be attending Idea Marketplace?

ASJA's annual writers conference is one of the nation's premier events for professional writers. Last year's conference sold out, with more than 600 people attending. Most were either full-time freelancers or staff writers and editors from America's top publications. For more information about the 2008 Writers Conference, visit the Conference web pages.

How much does it cost to exhibit?

The cost of a 6-foot by 30-inch tabletop for both days is $750 for first-time exhibitors. Returning exhibitors and non-profits (with a valid FID number) receive a $100 discount, and pay only $650.

Remember the low fee includes advertising in the Conference Issue of The ASJA Monthly and in the Conference Section of our Website, ASJAConference.com.

Double Exposure, Free Print and Web Advertising!

Not only will your ideas and products reach our conference participants; you can reach our entire membership—about five times as many writers---because we offer free advertising for Idea Marketplace exhibitors in the 2008 Conference Information Section on our website and free advertising in our Conference Information Issue of The ASJA Monthly.

You may place a business card size ad at no extra cost. The ad insertion deadline for the April issue is February 20, 2008. So sign up quickly and get the free extra exposure. Click here for ad specifications.

Where will the Idea Marketplace be located?

Idea Marketplace Exhibitors will be integrated into the life of the conference, since the IM location will itself become conference central -- the place where members come to register, catch a cup of coffee or meet one another between sessions. Exhibitors also are invited to join us at our cocktail receptions on Friday and Saturday, April 11 & 12, 2008.

I represent a public relations agency. Can I promote more than one client?

You can promote as many or as few as you wish. Because writers attending the meeting will be looking for story ideas they can take back to their editors, it's best if you pitch your clients as part of a bigger story. Businesses, government agencies and other organizations exhibiting at the Idea Marketplace can also promote whatever story ideas they choose.

Can I bring my company's exhibit booth?

Sorry, exhibits are limited to the 6-foot by 30-inch tabletops.

How can I arrange for delivery of papers, brochures etc., to the hotel on the day of the event?

Arrangements for the delivery of materials, and for electrical and Internet hookups must be made directly with the Hyatt. You will receive instructions and contact information for the Hyatt with your confirmation when you register.

How do I register?

Click here for the Idea Marketplace registration form (credit card or check).

Is there a special lodging rate if I want to stay overnight at the Grand Hyatt?

For those wanting to stay overnight, special room rates are available. When making reservations with the Hyatt, state that you want the "conference rate for the American Society of Journalists and Authors". To obtain this rate, reservations must be made before March 10, 2008.
