Lynne S. Dumas Mentoring Program

$50 additional fee

Can't break into the magazine market? Need help making a query sing? Want to know how to get your nonfiction book published? For career advice or just a chance to sit down with a professional writer who can answer your questions, sign up for a session with an ASJA mentor. For an additional fee of $50 you'll get 30 minutes of face-to-face guidance on the nonfiction writing topic of your choosing. Space is limited, so sign up early! Appointments are scheduled throughout the day Saturday, concurrent with panel sessions.

In case you all ever wonder about the benefits of those mentoring sessions, I wanted to pass on how helpful it was. I went to that meeting as a longtime newspaper writer, with no clue how to pitch anything. I followed what I learned about query letters and pitching to editors. I just completed a story for the New York Times (which made it onto the front page yesterday!) and got a Reader's Digest query accepted right away. I just want to thank you for all your advice.
