We know you want to know, so we asked Mark a few questions:

Q: Where can I find examples of your work?

Q: Will it hurt? Many writers fear being in front of the camera and say they're not photogenic. Can even the most nervous or reluctant of subjects take a great headshot?

A: Haha, No, not only does it not hurt, it is actually Fun! And some of the best shots come from the most reluctant clients! Seriously.

Q: Should I remove my glasses or contacts to look more natural?

A: Yes, but I always try to shoot both with and without glasses. Sometimes it's just difficult because of the glare on the lens.

Q: Should I cake on make-up? And if I don't will I look washed out?

A: No, just keep it simple . . . we want it just to look like you. You on a good day!!

Q: Are there any color, patterns or type of shirts, tops, blouses to avoid? Or that you recommend?

A: Again, keep it simple, but also have it reflect the kind of writer you are . . . Repetitive patterns are ok, but for instance big flower patterns aren't great. And I always like bright colors!!

Q: How long will it take to shoot my headshot?

A: Start to finish the whole shoot takes about 20-25 minutes . . . we chat the whole time- it's like we're not even shooting, then all of a sudden we have all these great shots, I then edit them down and boom we burn a CD and everyone is on their merry way. Painless!

Q: How many shots do you typically take?

A: A bunch . . . but, I edit it down to about 10 to 20 usually.

Q: What will I get? Will I walk away with proofs or a disc?

A: The edited photos on a disc at the end of the shoot for only $125! Plus, if you do want some touch-ups I can do that too for about $25 extra.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words; it's worth thousands of dollars, too. Learn how to add photography to your writing and why a picture can boost your sales. Experts will tell how to get started, find assignments, create your own photojournalist package and offer polishing tips for improving your photography.

Gina is a storyteller, through words and photographs. She began her career as a reporter/photographer for several daily newspapers in the Southeast and progressed to writing, editing and photographing for national magazines, including Backpacker, Outside, Runner's World, US Airways, Wired, Experience Life, Travel Savvy, Skiing and Hooked on the Outdoors.
