Professional Headshots

Professional Headshots by Mark Bennington

All three days

$125 Additional Fee

Every author needs a GREAT headshot, and here's how to get yours! Celebrated portrait photographer, Mark Bennington (as featured in Christina Katz's Get Known Before The Book Deal), has again confirmed a booth at our conference this year and will be offering an exclusive on-site portrait package to all ASJA attendees all three days. This special Conference Package includes: One look in a 20-minute shoot, all natural light -- indoor or outdoor, great conversation, and an edited CD of the original images at the end of the shoot. For only $125!! We are thrilled to have him back!! So, pack accordingly and be sure not to miss out on this amazing opportunity to put your best professional face forward. Appointments are first-come, first-served.

We know you want to know, so we asked Mark a few questions:

Q: Where can I find examples of your work?

A: Go to my web site: www.benningtonheadshots.com

Q: Will it hurt? Many writers fear being in front of the camera and say they're not photogenic. Can even the most nervous or reluctant of subjects take a great headshot?

A: Haha, No, not only does it not hurt, it is actually Fun! And some of the best shots come from the most reluctant clients! Seriously.

Q: Should I remove my glasses or contacts to look more natural?

A: Yes, but I always try to shoot both with and without glasses. Sometimes it's just difficult because of the glare on the lens.

Q: Should I cake on make-up? And if I don't will I look washed out?

A: No, just keep it simple . . . we want it just to look like you. You on a good day!!

Q: Are there any color, patterns or type of shirts, tops, blouses to avoid? Or that you recommend?

A: Again, keep it simple, but also have it reflect the kind of writer you are . . . Repetitive patterns are ok, but for instance big flower patterns aren't great. And I always like bright colors!!

Q: How long will it take to shoot my headshot?

A: Start to finish the whole shoot takes about 20-25 minutes . . . we chat the whole time- it's like we're not even shooting, then all of a sudden we have all these great shots, I then edit them down and boom we burn a CD and everyone is on their merry way. Painless!

Q: How many shots do you typically take?

A: A bunch . . . but, I edit it down to about 10 to 20 usually.

Q: What will I get? Will I walk away with proofs or a disc?

A: The edited photos on a disc at the end of the shoot for only $125! Plus, if you do want some touch-ups I can do that too for about $25 extra.
