In Remembrance: Edith Gilbert

Edith Gilbert of Charlevoix, Mich., passed away on July 31, after a brief illness. She was 91.
But I want you and other members to know how amazing she was: On July 27, she asked me to write a recommendation for her on LinkedIn, and of course, I did. She sent a recommendation for me the same day. This at age 91! She was such a thoroughly modern woman.
I wrote a profile about Edith for Traverse magazine a few years ago, and during my interview and lunch we bonded immediately. She had such verve and style, a great sense of humor, and boundless energy—she recently launched her own company to market her Plum Crazy jams and preserves. The link to her website is still up: www.edithgilbert.com
Edith was not only an author, advice columnist, and bon vivant, she was an artist herself and a huge patron of the arts. A few years back, I was invited to one of many luncheons honoring her (and several of her best recipes), and it was clear that everybody loved and admired Edith.
