ASJA's 2008 Annual Conference

The 37th Annual ASJA Writers Conference was themed Moving On Up! Writing Better And Smarter In Today's Market

Members-only sessions were held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 42nd and Grand Central Station, New York, NY on Friday, April 11, while members and nonmember writers also attended sessions on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13. Here are just some of the photos from the event.

New member Greg Cook got into the action right away. 81s
10s ASJA President Russ Wild and keynote speaker Melissa Fay Greene. Wild thinks the food is wonderful, while Greene thinks the pressure is getting to our beloved "prez".

06s The B&N bookstore anchored the Conference Central hall. All books sold here were written by (of course!) ASJA members.

20s Another nonmember making a point at the luncheon. She's probably thinking that she needs to join this august and fun group.

37s Conference co-chair Salley Shannon introducing Melissa Fay Greene, keynote speaker.
Melissa Fay Greene, keynote speaker, gave a delightful and well-received speech. Greene is a master at recreating events through the eyes of those who lived through them. All her books have won significant awards and two, Praying for Sheetrock and The Temple Bombing, were National Book Award finalists. 39s
49s Ruth Gruber, winner of the Open Book Award, had to stand next to the podium. But her life story is a big inspiration!

The Gang of Four? No, it's S2, 2008 and S2, 2009 editions! Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt and Salley Shannon ("S2, 2008"), conference co-chairs, in the center, flanked by next year's co-chairs Sally Stich and Sherry Paprocki (who are "S2, 2009"). Rumor has it that ASJA board members are at wits end looking for another variation on the spelling of Salley/Sally and Sheri/Sherry for the year 2010.
