Rebecca Skloot's new book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, was published in February and has received quite a bit of advance publicity. It was named a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers pick for Spring 2010, it received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus, and Booklist, and was featured on the cover of Publishers Weekly, as well as in Wired, Popular Science, Essence, Readers Digest, Self, Vanity Fair, Good Housekeeping, Los Angeles Times, and numerous others
Kristin Ohlson was chosen by the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) as one of 20 new Creative Workforce Fellows, each of whom will receive a $20,000 award to support his or her work. Bruce Henderson's Empire of Deceit has been optioned for film by Pelagius Films, producers of Talk to Me and Bombing Harvey. It is Henderson's third film deal in a year: his Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission To Make Time Travel a Reality (with Dr. Ronald Mallett), was purchased by director Spike Lee, and Spy Dust (with Antonio and Jonna Mendez), about CIA operations during the Cold War, is in development at DreamWorks Studios.
