Mary Collins has been having a great time promoting her new book, American Idle: A Journey Through Our Sedentary Culture (Capital Books 2009). She's appeared on NPR stations and TV stations (Fox and NBC affiliates). She offers a tip to other writers out there promoting their books: "Major magazines, such as Health and Smithsonian, are happy to do author interviews for their websites. It's easier to crack than the paper version of the publications and great free exposure."

Chelsea Lowe's new book, Living With Someone Who's Living With Bipolar Disorder , which she coauthored with Bruce M. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., was published by John Wiley & Sons in January.

Anne Hosansky, who's working on a collection of her short stories, had four more published this year, three in the print journals Convergence Review, The MacGuffin and Rambunctious Review, and the latest online in the current issue of mamazina.org

In late November, Kim Kavin launched BoaterMouth.com, which features the daily blogs of a dozen leading marine journalists. In its first two weeks online, the site garnered a half- dozen advertisers, more than 1,000 readers, and a substantial acquisition offer. "I see this immediate support for seasoned writers as a bright spot in the dark economic storm that niche journalists are facing across the publishing industry," Kim says .

Francine Russo's first book is out from Random House: They're Your Parents, Too! How Siblings Can Survive Their Parents' Aging Without Driving Each Other Crazy.

Sharon Naylor has been named the New York president of Wish Upon a Wedding, granting wedding wishes to terminally-ill patients, so that they may celebrate their love, hope, and courage with their families and friends. She greatly welcomes N.Y.and N.J.- based volunteers to work with her on this endeavor.

Linda Riebel, Ph.D., has published The Earth-Friendly Food Chain (Cosmick Press), about how our food choices can help (or hurt) the environment. Full of encouraging facts and inspiring true stories, the book shows readers how they can help save the earth, three times a day.

Tina Traster, who writes the New York Post "Burb Appeal" column, also has a Huffington Post blog called "The Great Divide." In both, she chronicles her unique perspective on the burbs.

Tinker Ready, who is training for multimedia work, won a grant last summer to cover the costs in acquiring audio recording and editing equipment. At press time, she was completing a piece on the difficulties communities face in setting up health information systems, which was scheduled to run on WBUR on Christmas weekend. She also writes for the BostonHealthNews.com blog.

Maxine Rock has finalized a contract for her tenth book, which she is writing with two brain scientists. Maxine will translate their research on brain waves for a lay audience.

Mary and Bill Burnham have launched guided, multi-day "Paddle with the Authors" kayak trips in the Florida Keys this winter. The Burnhams are co-authors of the Florida Keys Paddling Atlas, winner of a National Outdoor Book Award, and certified kayak instructors .

Robert Woodcox, best-selling author and prolific ghostwriter (40 books and counting), is up to it again. His ghost written book, I Hate To Lose, for golfing great Charlie Owens, is now for sale at all traditional book retailers .

Laird Harrison's video on the effort of Ohlone Indian Linda Yamane to revive her ancestor's forgotten language was posted on the Smithsonian Magazine website .

Leah Ingram's newest title hit bookstore shelves in January. Called Suddenly Frugal: How to Live Happier and Healthier on Less, this prescriptive, money-saving guide from Adams Media grew out of her blog of the same name. A second book related to the Suddenly Frugal theme is in the works.

Amy Spencer's first book, Meeting Your Half-Orange: An Utterly Upbeat Guide to Using Dating Optimism to Find Your Perfect Match, is just out from Running Press .

Dr. Kathleen P. King, speaker, faculty coach, and president of Transformation Education LLC, keynoted two events last October. The topic in Buffalo, NY: 21st Century Learning Skills and for the Creative Pursuits Conference: Digital Media.

Peter Rose, peripatetic professor, prize-winning travel journalist, and author of seven books, including Guest Appearances and Other Travels in Time and Space (Swallow Press, 2003), has just published With Few Reservations: Travels at Home and Abroad (iUniverse, 2010), a volume of 48 essays describing his recent extracurricular sojourns.
