Caitlin Kelly sold her second book, Retail Therapy (named by ASJA member Randy Dotinga) to Portfolio, a business imprint of Penguin. The book began with an essay in the ASJA newsletter, turned into another essay for The New York Times, yet another for Smithsonian. Her agent, Kathleen Anderson, found her in March when she spoke at CUNY in NYC on an ASJA panel on freelancing.

Irene S. Levine, Ph.D. was a guest on The Today Show on 9/30, discussing her new book, Best Friends Forever: Surviving a Breakup with Your Best Friend (Overlook TP).

Cindy Kenney's new book in The Precious Girls Club series, The Best Gift of All helps girls, six through 12 realize the value of respect.

Karla Zimmerman's Great Escapes: Chicago was recently published by Countryman Press. It offers travelers an arsenal of day trips and weekend getaways near Chicago.

Echo Montgomery Garrett's My Orange Duffel Bag: A Journey to Radical Change (Operation Orange Media), a graphic mini-memoir about Sam Bracken's journey from abuse and homelessness in Las Vegas to a full-ride football scholarship at Georgia Tech, comes out this month.

Penny Musco recently wrote and performed Steal Away: The Story of a Kansas Homesteader and an Exoduster at Homestead National Monument in Nebraska. Penny is the first artist-in-residence for this unit of the National Park Service.

Jennifer Margulis's article about West Africa's last herd of wild giraffes, which was a cover story in Smithsonian Magazine, is included in the newly released Best American Science Writers 2009 (HarperCollins).

The Alzheimer's Action Plan (St. Martin's Press), co-authored by Tina Adler, received honorable mention from the American Medical Writers Association in the public/healthcare consumer category of its 2009 medical book awards.

David Krueger, M.D.'s international release, The Secret Language of Money (McGraw Hill), is a guided tour to the subconscious meanings we give money, the conflicted ways our brain deals with money.

Kelly McGonigal, Ph.D., has a new book out this month. Yoga for Pain Relief: Simple Practices to Calm Your Mind and Heal Your Pain (New Harbinger) is the first book to integrate cutting-edge neuroscience and medical research with traditional yoga and meditation practices.

Mary Mihaly's new book, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Demystified (DaCapo/Perseus Books), co-authored with Cheryl Carmin, Ph.D., is garnering terrific reviews. Los Angeles Daily News recommends it "for anyone with the disease, friends or loved ones who want to better understand and help.".

Cynthia Boal Janssens has a new cruise blog on the new cruise website AllThingsCruise.com. She has just returned from the Galapagos Islands and is about to head to Europe for a two-week transatlantic cruise.

Margaret A. Haapoja's essay, "Iron Red Home," appears in Our Neck of the Woods: Exploring Minnesota's Wild Places (University of Minnesota Press).

Judy Molland's second book, Get Out! 150 Ways for Kids & Grown-Ups to Get into Nature and Build a Greener Future (Free Spirit Publishing) was published in September.

Margie Goldsmith, who has a monthly column "Trips & Tips" in Women's Running, also is now the Adventure Spa Writer for the news website, www.HealingLifestyles.com. Goldsmith's adventures include summitting Mt. Rainier, climbing to Advanced Base Camp on the north face of Everest, paddling the entire Colorado River on the Grand Canyon, and camel riding in Egypt.

The Trouble with HR: An Insider's Guide to Finding and Keeping the Best People, co-writen by Gary M. Stern and Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. is just out from Amacom.

Katy Koontz is the author of the sixth edition of The Insiders' Guide to the Great Smoky Mountains (Globe Pequot Press). This is the second edition of the guide Katy has updated, and the first to carry her name as the author.

Alma Bond soon will have yet another book added to her 17 publications. Michelle Obama, a Biography will be published by Greenwood Press around Christmas. Alma's novel, The Quantum Twins, was published in September by WildChild Press.

Lynda McDaniel's Words at Work: Powerful Business Writing Delivers Increased Sales, Improved Results, and Even a Promotion or Two, was published in August by the Association for Creative Business Writing.

Kathryn Cullen-DuPont's book, Global Issues: Human Trafficking, was published by Facts on File in August.

Hal Higdon sold the Brazilian rights to his just published novel, Marathon, even before selling American rights. Higdon chose the non-traditional route to sales, offering the novel first on his website, on Amazon.com, and on Kindle. It's his 36th book.
