Susan M. Brackney's latest nonfiction work, Plan Bee: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Hardest-Working Creatures on the Planet, was released in hardback on April 28 by Perigee Books. The beekeeper and author met her future editor via "Personal Pitch" at a past ASJA Conference.

Jean Fain, a Harvard Medical School-affiliated psychotherapist, is writing a book on compassionate weight loss, working title, Slimming Lessons.

Karen Christino's new book. Your Wedding Astrologer, was featured on the Martha Stewart Weddings and InStyle Weddings blogs. Filled with wedding tips designed exclusively for each sign of the zodiac, Your Wedding Astrologer helps brides plan the perfect affair and better understand a new spouse, in-laws, and sexuality.

Stefan Bechtel has two books coming out from National Geographic Books this year: Tornado Hunter: Getting Inside the Most Violent Weather on Earth, with Tim Samaras, tells the story of one of the world's most daring and successful tornado researchers. (Pub date: May). Dogtown: Tales of Rescue, Rehabilitation and Redemption, is about the largest no-kill animal shelter in the country, which rehabilitates abused dogs, including Michael Vick's pit bulls. (Pub date: July).

Life, Love, Losses and Dogs: A Memoir, With Paw Prints (ASJA Press/iUniverse) by Thomas Fensch has just been published. It is his 27th book of nonfiction and is the story of the dogs he had as a child, his first marriage and the dogs he and his wife Jean had; the dogs he and his second wife Sharon had; and the dogs he has now.

Mary Beth Klatt has been invited to submit photographs of herself sewing hats for CraftCorps, a book to be published by Lark Books.

Clinton County ARC: Past & Present, Marian Calabro's history of an upstate New York nonprofit, will be published this month by her company CorporateHistory.net. ASJA member Theresa Russell conducted many of the research interviews. CorporateHistory.net will produce a book by year-end for Dempsey Uniform, a family-owned business in Pennsylvania.

Jen A. Miller has been named South Jersey bureau chief of New Jersey Monthly magazine.

Ruth Winter, along with Vonda Wright, M.D., director of PRIMA (Performance and Research Initiative for Master Athletes) at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Sports Medicine, co-wrote Fitness After 40: How To Stay Strong at Any Age ( Amacom, January 2009), which is about to go into its third printing..

New member Jesse Jayne Rutherford ghostwrote The Modern Mom's Guide to Dads: Ten Secrets Your Husband Won't Tell You by Hogan Hilling (Cumberland House, 2007). The book won a 2008 National Parenting Publications Gold Award.

Forests Forever: Their Ecology, Restoration, and Protection by ecologist John J. Berger, Ph.D., is now being distributed by the University of Chicago Press. With detailed accounts of forest conservation efforts, the book tells how to use forests sustainably, prevent further forest damage, and repair abused forests—and includes 82 beautiful color images by the world's best nature photographers.

Dorianne R. Perrucci just finished Asset Allocation for Dummies, forthcoming in May from John Wiley & Sons. It's the fifth book she's written or collaborated on since the financial crisis broke in September 2007. In 2008, she collaborated on I.O.U.S.A, One Nation, Under Stress, In Debt (Wiley), the companion book to the Sundance documentary film. Other titles Dori has contributed to include AARP's Retirement Survival Guide, by fellow ASJA member Julie Jason, and The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide, with New York Times-bestselling author Martin D. Weiss, both due out by the summer.

Michele C. Hollow has two books out: Grateful Dead: What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been (Enslow Publishers) is for children, and has interviews with band members. The Everything Guide to Careers with Animals (Adams Media) features stories from animal behaviorists and trainers to zoologists, and even a makeup artist for animal actors.
