Jerome Tuccille’s two new biographies will be published in 2009: Dillerland, an in-depth look at media mogul Barry Diller, in May by Alyson Books; and Gallo Be Thy Name, a controversial look into the Gallo wine empire, by Phoenix Books in September.

A photo essay on Tania Grossinger’s Growing Up at Grossinger’s (Skyhorse Publishing, 2008) was featured this past December and January on www.wowowow.com, the website founded by Liz Smith, Leslie Stahl, Lily Tomlin, Joni Evans, Whoopi Goldberg, Marlo Thomas, and other accomplished women.

Chicago writer Mary Beth Klatt has a story on C-House’s Candy Bar in the March issue of Town & Country magazine.

Kay Harwell Fernandez contributed seven stories to the National Geographic’s tabletop book, Sacred Places of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Most Peaceful and Powerful Destinations.

Joan Rattner Heilman’s Unbelievably Good Deals and Great Adventures That You Absolutely Can’t Get Unless You’re Over 50, 2009-2010 (McGraw-Hill) has just been published in a new edition, completely updated, and revised. This is the 18th annual edition of this prize-winning guidebook and has sold almost a million copies.

Countryman Press, a division of W.W. Norton, published the fifteenth travel guide by Patricia and Robert Foulke. A Visitor’s Guide to the Colonial & Revolutionary South came out in November 2008. The Foulkes have been traveling the world, studying writing and enjoying new and favorite experiences together for fifty-five years.

Nancy Kriplen’s biography, The Eccentric Billionaire: John D. MacArthur—Empire Builder, Reluctant Philanthropist, Relentless Adversary, was named by USA Today as one of the Best Business Books of 2008.

Alison Lowenstein’s latest New York guidebook is out. City Weekends: The Greatest Escapes and Weekend Get-aways in and Around NYC (Rizzoli/Uni-verse/City and Co.) includes unique trip ideas in New York City and surrounding areas within two hours of the city.

Caroline Tiger’s City Walks Deck: Philadelphia has been published by Chronicle Books. This is the third Philadelphia guidebook Caroline has recently worked on: In 2008, she contributed the dining chapter to Fodor’s Philadelphia, 15th Edition; plus chapters on Philadelphia, Northeast PA, and Southeast PA to Fodor’s Compass Guide to Pennsylvania.

Nancy Del Pizzo is an attorney at Wolff & Samson, PC, in West Orange, NJ, in the intellectual property and commercial litigation departments.

The 2nd edition of Jan Yager’s co-authored book, Career Opportunities in the Film Industry, was published in January by Facts on File, Inc. in hardcover and trade paperback.

Harvest House has released Cecil Murphey’s gift book, When Someone You Love Has Cancer: 90 Minutes in Heaven (which he ghosted for Don Piper), has been translated into 32 languages, including Arabic. In February, TNT-TV will show the film version of his ghosted Gifted Hands, which stars Cuba Gooding Jr.

Kelly Boyer Sagert published her newest book, Encyclopedia of Extreme Sports (Greenwood Publishing), in December 2008. This book "traces the evolution of the most adventurous-and adrenaline inducing-land, water, and air sports...entries highlight the star athletes, extreme sport competitions, pro techniques, requisite equipment and clothing, and more."

Hope Egan’s What the Bible Says about Healthy Living Cookbook: Simple and Tasty Recipes Featuring God’s Ingredients (Heart of Wisdom) is out. This follow-up to Dr. Rex Russell’s best-selling What the Bible Says about Healthy Living, includes more than 150 recipes plus nutritional facts.

Carol Krucoff’s new audio CD, Healing Moves Yoga, is designed to release tension, enhance energy, stretch and strengthen your body, relax your mind, and lift your spirits.

One of the first women to start a record label, Daylle Deanna Schwartz learned to get taken seriously and still be nice, leading to Nice Girls Can Finish First (McGraw-Hill) and her third edition of Start & Run Your Own Record Label. She’s having a sponsored double book release party in NYC in March.

Linda Konner, the exclusive literary agent for Harvard Health Publications (the trade-book branch of Harvard Medical School), will be a speaker for the fourth consecutive year at the “Publishing Books, Memoirs, and Other Creative Nonfiction” writers conference in Boston (March 26-28) and will also appear at the University of New Mexico/Southwest Writers conference in Albuquerque in April.

Last month Sheri Koones received the Gold Award from The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE), in the 2008 Robert Bruss Real Estate Book Awards for her latest book, Prefabulous.

In Los Angeles, Steve Zikman has opened his new law practice specializing in land use and environmental matters.

Elizabeth Hansen recently won five Excellence in Journalism Awards from the San Diego Press Club. Her column in Ranch & Coast, San Diego’s luxury lifestyle magazine, was awarded first place, and she also won a first for a photo portrait of a Zulu girl in South Africa. Three of Hansen’s Ranch & Coast features won second places.

Erin Torneo’s Picking Cotton is out in hardcover and audio, and was called “riveting” (Publisher’s Weekly), “important, affecting” (Kirkus Reviews), “a must read” (Studs Terkel). Dead Man Walking author Helen Prejean says it “will break your heart and lift it up again.” .

Diane Daniel won a third-place award in the 2008 SATW Foundation Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition for “Best Newspaper Article on U.S. Travel” for her story on short-term/regional home exchanges in the New York Times Escapes section.
