John Hanc was named a contributing editor to Runner's World magazine. Hanc has been a frequent contributor to the magazine for many years. Hanc's eighth book will be published in January 2009 by Chicago Review Press. The Coolest Race on Earth is a memoir of his experiences running the 2005 Antarctica Marathon.

Emma Johnson's multimedia column on MSN Money launched recently. The series covers personal finance for people in their 20s and 30s and includes video and other multimedia elements. Topics include "Why Generation Y is broke," and "Can you get by with just one car?"

Debra Gordon's Wine on Tuesdays: Be a Serious Wine Drinker without Taking Wine Too Seriously! (Thomas Nelson) has just been published. It's "the ultimate non-snob guide to enjoying wine and the lifestyle that goes along with it." Written in conjunction with her husband, Keith, along with a great deal of wine.

Susanne M. Alexander has launched a new book project, Happy at Home, Happy at Work: The Powerful Rewards of Building Character. The marketing of the book is targeted at corporations primarily and retail sales second and includes tools for both couples and employees.

Life Among the Christians by Leila Foster is the third book in her 4th-century historical novel series published by Capstone Fiction. Ethel, a new Christian, travels with her blended family from Britain to Rome, Constantinople and Jerusalem with three young boys who need protection from a family enemy.

Adventure journalist Karen Kefauver was selected as a speaker for the 2008 Adventure Travel Trade Association's South America Summit in Brazil, September 3-7. Her speech was called "Beyond the Press Release: Creative Strategies for Increased Media Visibility." She will tour Peru by mountain bike with Sacred Rides.

Jeanette Hurt's first two books, The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Cheeses of the World (Alpha Books) and The Cheeses of Wisconsin: A Culinary Travel Guide (The Countryman Press) have just been published. Hurt recently attended the American Cheese Society convention and appeared on Martha Stewart Living satellite radio to promote them.

Nancy S. Grant's The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Your Carbon Footprint (Penguin/Alpha Books, May 2008) offers practical tips for wise energy use, along with concise explanations of greenhouse gas science and technology. In June, her monthly "Future of Electricity" columns for Kentucky Living received 2nd place national honors at the annual Cooperative Communicators Association Institute.

Barbara DeMarco-Barrett's book, Pen on Fire: A Busy Woman's Guide to Igniting the Writer Within (Harcourt, 2004), which won an ASJA Best Book award in 2005, has gone into its 7th printing.

Jan Yager's third book on time management, Work Less, Do More: The 14-Day Productivity Makeover, has been published by Sterling Publishing Co., Inc.

The Calcium Lie: What Your Doctor Doesn't Know Could Kill You by Kathleen Barnes and Dr. Robert Thompson (InTruth Press, 2008) is now available. The book addresses the serious health consequences of the common misconception by doctors and patients that calcium supplementation is necessary for strong bones.

Joshua Berman's newest book, the third edition of Moon Handbooks Nicaragua (Avalon Travel Publishing, 2008, coauthor Randy Wood), shipped Sept. 1; he is presently updating Moon Handbooks Belize, writing a narrative travel book, and teaching Spanish to grades 1-7 at the Shining Mountain Waldorf School in Boulder, Colorado.

Beacon Press published Nancy Rubin Stuart's The Muse of the Revolution: The Secret Pen of Mercy Otis Warren and the Founding of a Nation in July.

Writer and teacher Herbert Hadad of Pocantico Hills, NY, fulfilled a long-held dream by traveling to Syria, his father's homeland, with his wife and three children. The experience led to a 1,500-word opinion piece published by the International Herald Tribune.

Chef, writer, teacher and recipe developer Vanessa Barrington announces the release of a cookbook: Heirloom Beans: Great Recipes for Dips and Spreads, Soups and Stews, Salads and Salsas, and Much More from Rancho Gordo (Chronicle Books, September 2008), written with Steve Sando, the founder of Rancho Gordo, a specialty food company that sells New World Heirloom Beans.

Eugene L. Meyer has won a second-place Simon Rockower Award for Excellence in Jewish Journalism for a five-part series on Jewish clergy sexual abuse. It was published by JTA in 2007. The award, shared with co-author Richard Greenberg, was given by the American Jewish Press Association.

Nan Chase's new book, with co-author Chris McCurry, is Bark House Style: Sustainable Designs from Nature, from Gibbs Smith. They reveal an unknown bit of American architectural history, which is coming back to life today as a green building style

Gerry Souter received copies of his 40th book, a lavish oversize hardcover biography with 50,000 words of text on the artist Kasimir Malevich, from his Paris publisher, Parkstone-Sirrocco. Gerry is currently writing The Earnhardts/History of NASCAR for Greenwood Press in Connecticut

Michelle Arnot has authored Four-Letter Words: And Other Secrets of a Crossword Insider (Perigee Penguin). She is also the author of Crossword Puzzles for Dummies. NPR puzzle master Will Shortz calls Arnot "the clearest, liveliest writer in the world of puzzles."

W. Doyle Gentry's fourth self-help book, Happiness For Dummies, has been published by Wiley (July 2008). This book represents the other-side of the coin from his last book, Anger Management For Dummies (November 2006). Anyone can achieve happiness by striking the right balance between work/play, structure/freedom and selfishness/generosity.

Linda Eve Diamond, author of Rule #1: Stop Talking! A Guide to Listening and creator of ListenersUnite.com, was honored with two International Listening Association (ILA) awards: The 2008 ILA President's Award and the 2008 ILA Listening In The Business Sector Award.
