Robert Kanigel won a Guggenheim fellowship in General Nonfiction for his next book, set on the Blasket Islands in the west of Ireland. He also writes for magazines, including The New York Times, Civilization and The Washington Post.
Teresa Barker has co-authored It's a Boy! Understanding Your Son's Development from Birth to Age 18 (Ballantine Books) with best-selling author and psychologist Michael G. Thompson, Ph.D. Barker has co-written 10 other books, four of them with Thompson, including The New York Times bestseller, Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys.
A full-page color photograph of Sir Richard Branson taken by Margie Goldsmith graces the inside cover of Change the World at 35,000 Feet. The booklet, given out on Virgin Atlantic flights, suggests actions passengers can take to help save our planet. Goldsmith arrived on Necker Island to do a profile of Sir Richard, gave him a copy of Change the World for a Fiver, and shot of him reading the book in his hammock. Based on Goldsmith's visit, Sir Richard commissioned his own book by the same organization, We Are What We Do.
The Commuter Marriage: Keep Your Relationship Close While You're Far Apart (Adams Media, June 2008) by Tina B. Tessina, Ph.D. is her second new book this year, along with Money, Sex and Kids (Adams)
Vince Agul's "Hoop Dreams at Lawrence Tech," March/April issue Michigan History Magazine, relates how in the late '40s winning basketball and post-game big band dances made LIT one of the nation's best-known engineering schools
Jen A. Miller's The Jersey Shore, Atlantic City to Cape May: Great Destinations, a travel guide to the South Jersey shore, was published in May 2008.
Todd Pitock's story about a journey in Niger with Tuareg blacksmiths, which appeared in ForbesLife, is included in Best Travel Writing 2008 (Travelers Tales). His story about Islam and science, which appeared in Discover, was selected for Best American Science and Nature Writing 2008 (Houghton-Mifflin), and will appear later this year
Marie Proeller Hueston reports on photography workshops in the June issue of Town & Country
Mary L. Peachin has signed a contract with University Press Florida to write Sport Fishing the Caribbean. She is happy to hear from anyone with favorite fishing destinations, guides, or fisher-friendly accommodations. This book is a follow-up to Scuba Caribbean, which is scheduled for release in late 2008/early 2009
In March, Mary Burnham won first place in the Jamestown Settlement contest, Article Category, for coverage of Jamestown's 400th Anniversary
Anne Hart was interviewed by New York Times reporter Lisa Belkin about her book on personality test design titled, Employment Personality Tests Decoded, co-written with George Sheldon (Career Press, 2007)
