Jerome Tuccille's new book, Gallery of Fools, will be published by Rooftop Publishing, a subsidiary of Bertram Capital Management, in March 2008. Tuccille's memoir dramatizes the true story about the theft of eight impressionist masterpieces in the 1970s. One of them, Monet's Nympheas, recently sold at auction in London for the equivalent of $36 million. Some members of the author's family were involved in the crime
Ron Chepesiuk published and co-produced a documentary called Superlfy: The True, Untold Story of Frank Lucas, American Gangster (www.franklucasamericangangster.com) and has co-founded a new media company, Street Certified LLC (www.streetcertifiedent.com), specializing in true crime products
Shannon Brownlee's book, Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer, was named the No. 1 economics book of 2007 by The New York Times
In January, The Dramatist's Guild presented Alma H. Bond's play, Maria, a monologue about the life and loves of Maria Callas. The play starred world renowned diva Joy Davidson, who formerly appeared at the Met, La Scala and the New York City Opera
Sondra Forsythe, former executive editor of LHJ and features editor of Cosmopolitan, has been teaching MediaBistro's "Boot Camp for Magazine Editors" in NYC. She also conducted two seminars, "How to Become a Successful Magazine Editor" and "Breaking Into Article Writing" based on her book of the same name
This month Anne Hart published two paperback books: 101+ Practical Ways to Raise Funds: A Step-by-Step Guide with Answers (ASJA Press) and Traveling Poems (Lulu.com)
In January, Minneapolis-based journalist Maryn McKenna, author of Beating Back The Devil and the forthcoming Superbug, gave a lecture in Bangkok called, "Feet on the Pavement: Assumptions and Reality in Reporting on Disease." The conference, called "Changing Dynamics in the Asia Pacific: Power Politics, Economic Might, Media Challenges," was sponsored by the nonprofit East-West Center
Margie Goldsmith won first prize from the North American Journalists Travel Association (NAJTA) for her story, "Up a Hill in Morocco," published by Distinction Magazine about running in a small Altai Mountain village as Moroccan women in long skirts, head scarves and slippers jogged along with her
Jessica DuLong closed a deal with The Free Press (Simon & Schuster) for The Hudson, Rediscovered. The book combines a memoir of the author's experiences ditching her desk job to become the world's only female fireboat engineer, with a cultural history of the Hudson River as a microcosm of post-industrial America
Amy Hill Hearth's sixth book, Strong Medicine Speaks: A Native American Elder Has Her Say, will be published this month by Atria/Simon & Schuster, which is marketing the book as a follow-up to Amy's first book, the 1993 New York Times bestseller, Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years
Nancy Christie's short story, "Misconnections," has been accepted by Wanderings Magazine, and appears in its Winter '08 issue (available in print and online at www.wanderingsmag.com). She's at work on two books: her short fiction collection, and a sequel to her first book, The Gifts of Change
Vital Speeches of the Day, which prints "the best thoughts of the best minds on current national questions," selected a speech by Joan Detz which she delivered at the National Conference of State Legislatures. Detz is the author of Can You Say A Few Words? (St. Martin's Press, 2006)
An anthology just published by Voyageur Press, Knitting Through It: Inspiring Stories for Times of Trouble, includes an essay by Barbara DeMarco-Barrett called "Knitting: My Urban Escape"
