Constance Hale is the new program director at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. Connie will teach nonfiction narrative to fellows, edit the Nieman Digest (a Web site showcasing great storytelling), and organize the annual Nieman Narrative Conference. She'll continue to spend some time at home in California.


Bill and Mary Burnham's Florida Keys Paddling Atlas (Globe Pequot Press), is the result of kayaking every bit of the 100-mile island chain. The guidebook features color charts and photographs, resources on launches, campsites, paddle-friendly lodging and restaurants, hidden waterways, fishing and bird-watching sites. www.BurnhamInk.com.
Michael Luongo's new book, Gay Travels in the Muslim World, was published in Haworth Press Out in the World gay travel series. With The U.S. Supreme Court Coloring and Activity Book, Jenny B. Davis creates a high court the whole family can appreciate. The 32-page book, which she wrote and illustrated, is filled with simple line drawings of famous justices -- including everyone on the current court -- plus activities like mazes and dot-to-dots.
Robson Books has published Harvey Rachlin's Scandals, Vandals and Da Vincis: A Gallery Of Remarkable Art Tales in the UK (Penguin is the US publisher). Foreign rights have been sold to publishers in several other countries and, following the book's US and UK publications, the author was invited to write articles for The Wall Street Journal and The Times (of London).
A contributing editor to Mystery Scene magazine, Cheryl Solimini won the 2007 Unpublished Mystery Novel award at the recent Deadly Ink mystery writer/fan conference for Across the River, a baby boomer tale of suspense. The award comes with an offer of publication by Deadly Ink Press. Also, after 17 years as a freelancer, Cheryl has joined the staff of Highlights for Children as Editor of Special Projects, overseeing the venerable magazine's kids and parenting Web sites and special-interest publications.
Judith Kirkwood is on the Parent Advisory Board of Partnership for a Drug-Free America.
Anne Hart's latest books include: How to Video Record Your Dog's Life Story: Writing, Financing and Producing Pet Documentaries, Drama or News, and Ethno-Playography: How to Create Salable Ethnographic Plays, Monologues and Skits from Life Stories, Social Issues, and Current Events.
Deborah Robson co-edited High IQ Kids: Collected Insights, Information and Personal Stories from the Experts, just released by independent Free Spirit Publishing. She says, "This anthology combines research papers with essays. We knew the difficult-to-place mix was the right approach for the subject, and finally connected with the perfect publisher.".
After a decade of near continuous travel, Joshua Berman has settled in Boulder, Co., where he has a new home in a co-housing community and a new book on the shelves: Moon Belize 7th Edition (Avalon Travel Publishing). His next big trip is into the Land of Parenthood.
Chelsea Lowe's Everything Health Guide to Adult OCD comes out in October from Adams Media. It's her first published book.
Linda Eve Diamond's new book, Perfect Phrases for Building Strong Teams, was recently released by McGraw-Hill.
Cindy La Ferle's essay, "The Gift of Receiving," earned extra mileage this summer. Reprinted from her book, Writing Home, it ran in Chicken Soup for the Soul (Healthy Living Series), was picked up by Catholic Digest, then featured on Father Paul Keenan's "As You Think" program (Sirius Catholic Radio). Cindy was also recently appointed to Writer-in-Residence for her suburban Detroit library .
Michelle Schafer, Communications and Publications Coordinator at the Institute for Women's Policy Research in Washington, D.C., had this to say about Jacqueline Shannon's expanded, updated, and globalized version of Why It's Great to be a Girl (released this year by HarperCollins): "I first read this book in high school. It had all sorts of interesting facts that I never knew, or that no one else had ever told me. I bought the book and thought, ‘Wow. This will be great when I have a daughter of my own.' Plus it had the bonus of building up my self-esteem at a time when I was struggling with the woman I was becoming. I will be holding onto [the new version] until my daughter is old enough to read it for herself."
Sharon Naylor, author of over 30 wedding books, is featured on Ask the Wedding Etiquette Expert at iVillage.com's Weddings section, and her iVillage blog on being "The Peaceful Bride" begins in September. Sharon also recently guested on Martha Stewart Weddings Sirius Satellite Radio Show to promote her book, Mother of the Groom.
Sally Moore's new book, Back Roads & Byways of New Mexico, has been released by Countryman Press.
The number of families choosing to have one child has more than doubled in a generation, yet negative stereotypes of lonely, bossy, spoiled only children persist. In August, ABC's 20/20 explored the only child myth with Susan Newman, author of Parenting an Only Child (Broadway Books).
