Mary Beth Temple's newest book, The Secret Language of Knitters (Andrews McMeel) will be out in July. It is a light-hearted look at the words and ways of knitters, and is laid out dictionary style so the reader can either look up an unfamiliar word, or read it cover to cover
Helen Gallagher won third place in the 2007 Illinois Women's Press Assn. communications contest for her essay, "Flavor By the Spoonful," published by Lonely Planet Travelers' Tales in The World Is a Kitchen. ( Last year, Helen won the nonfiction award from IWPA for her book, Computer Ease)
Lindsey Pollak's new book, Getting from College to Career: 90 Things to Do Before You Join the Real World, was recently released by HarperCollins
Kathy Seal's latest book is Pressured Parents, Stressed-out Kids: Dealing With Competition While Raising a Successful Child (Prometheus), co-authored with psychologist Wendy Grolnick
Jo Kadlecek's next novel, A Quarter After Tuesday, the second book in her contemporary mystery series, The Lightfoot Trilogy, was released by NavPress in June. The Trilogy follows an ex-hippie religion reporter in search of good news and a good man, though she can't seem to find either
Evelyn Spence's new book, Colorado's Classic Mountain Towns (W.W. Norton), is a guide to powder-choked ski runs, historic B&Bs, Rocky Mountain cuisine, quirky festivals, music, driving, backpacking and more, in spots like Aspen, Telluride, Crested Butte and Steamboat
"Father Stan Rother: American Martyr in Guatemala," John Rosengren's cover story for the July 2006 issue of the St. Anthony Messenger magazine, won two awards at the annual gathering of the Catholic Press Association in May
Gene Retske, Melanie Votaw, Sophia Dembling, Kay Day and W. Thomas Smith Jr. are contributors to Faces of Freedom, a new book profiling 52 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines; one from each state -- plus Puerto Rico and D.C. -- who lost their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan. Florence Williams has been named a Ted Scripps Fellow for 2007-2008 at the University of Colorado's Center of Environmental Journalism. She will move from Montana to Boulder later this summer and spend the year writing about environmental toxins
Leila Merrell Foster's first novel, Search for the Cross (Capstone Fiction), has just been released. It's about the Roman Empress Augusta Helena, mother of Constantine, who was to become St. Helena -- a woman of power and piety
Two of Perry Glasser's short stories were selected for inclusion in the St. Martin's Press anthology, Next Stop Hollywood: Stories Bound for the Screen. (One of them, "An Age of Marvels" is listed at www.nextstophollywood.org.) More than 60 readers and an advisory panel of Hollywood "insiders" read more than 600 stories in the selection process, focusing only on whether a story would make a terrific film or TV project

Anne Hart's latest book, written with George Sheldon, is titled Employment Personality Tests Decoded (Career Press) and is available July 30. This marks Anne Hart's 78th published book. Also newly released is Anne's book, How to Launch a Genealogy TV Business Online (ASJA Press)
Leslie Lang's book, Exploring Historic Hilo, published by Watermark Publishing in April, explores old Hilo (Hawaii), a town from 19th-century days, even before sugar cane was king, and throughout the sugar days of the first half of the 20th century. The book includes 100 rare old photos, many from private collections and each keyed to a location on a fold-out walking tour map ... This year's Career Achievement Award winner, Claudia Dreifus, and political scientist Andrew Hacker, have just signed with Times Books/Holt to write an investigative work called Higher Education? ... Following a concerted marketing push, Lynn Voedisch's novel, Excited Light (ASJA Press, 2006) reached number 515 in Amazon.com rankings on Jan. 4. The novel is about a young boy, coping with a single, alcoholic mother, who talks to angels at night. They work a miracle when a stranger threatens his mother's life
Theresa Russell co-authored the recently released Complete Idiot's Guide to Garage Solutions with her husband Robert Russell
Lisa Palmer was awarded the Rhode Island Press Association first prize award in the Best Feature Writing category for "Baby Love," which appeared in Rhode Island Monthly last August. The annual award was judged by the Pennsylvania Press Association in recognition of the best quality writing in the state
Paula Spencer's collaboration with Dr. Jill Stamm, Bright from the Start: The Simple, Science-Backed Way to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind From Birth to 3 (Gotham) is out in early August. Parenting Magazine bought first serial rights. In July, Paula's "Momfidence" column in Woman's Day expands to 17x/year
Kelly L. Stone's debut novel, Grave Secret (Mundania Press), will be released in August. The story is about a young woman who, after serving time for a double murder that she did not commit, sets out to solve the mystery surrounding the crime, all the while harboring a terrible secret about her past
In A Perfectly Funny Marriage, a cartoon book, Susanne Alexander lightens up the process of creating a successful relationship and marriage by looking at the humorous side! Together with well-known cartoonists such as Randy Glasbergen and Dave "Speed Bump" Coverly, Alexander illustrates the steps to relationship and marital success
Jen Singer has signed on with Sourcebooks to publish her book, Don't Answer the Phone When the Class Mom Calls, in 2008. She writes "Good Grief," a new blog for GoodHousekeeping.com. Plus, she has signed on as an advisor for Disney's newly-revamped Family.com
Science journalist Daniel Drollette, Jr.'s Goldrush in the Jungle, about the race to find -- and possibly save -- the rarest animals of Vietnam's "lost world," will be published by Harmony
Victoria Moran's tenth book, Fat, Broke & Lonely No More: Your Personal Solution to Overeating, Overspending, and Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places, was just published by HarperOne
After writing On Angel's Eve: A Manual for Caregivers on Creative Elder Care, Garnette Arledge wanted to write on enjoying life. Her follow up is called Wise Secrets of Aloha: The Sacred Art of Lomilomi (RedWheel/Weisers, March 2007)
Nora Isaacs's book, Women in Overdrive: Find Balance and Overcome Burnout at Any Age, has been published by Seal Press
ABC-TV Network veteran Anne Riccitelli is Media Co-Chair of the 60th Annual United Nations Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations Conference to be held at UN headquarters in New York in September on Climate Change: How It Impacts Us All. More than 2,000 international NGO representatives are expected to attend this annual meeting, which takes place on the eve of the opening of the General Assembly
Erin Torneo has been named a 2007 fellow in Nonfiction Literature by the New York Foundation for the Arts. And her first book, The Bridal Wave, has been optioned for film adaptation by Likely Story, producer Anthony Bregman's (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) new production company ... Jeanette Hurt won first place for the 2006 Midwest Travel Writers Association Mark Twain Award First Place for Geographic Area (Midwest travel stories).
