Joan Detz is donating 50 percent of the advance royalties of her new book, Can You Say a Few Words? (St. Martin's Press, 2006), to libraries throughout the country. Detz hopes her contributions "will encourage other people to 'give back' to the libraries that make a difference in their own lives." Detz teaches speechwriting seminars for basic, advanced and master levels
Joan Price, author of Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex After Sixty (Seal Press, 2006) was featured on ABC Nightline in December discussing senior sex and dating. Andrea King Collier's newest book, The Black Woman's Guide to Black Men's Health (Warner Wellness) was released in February. The book is a resource for women who want to help the men in their lives improve their health
Laurie Nadel will appear on Chevrolet's Tim McCarver Show with St. Louis Cardinals' manager Tony LaRussa. They will talk about Dr. Laurie Nadel's Sixth Sense: Unlocking Your Ultimate Mind Power (ASJA Press, December 2006) and how managers use hunches and gut feelings in baseball
Murder Off the Books, a mystery written by Evelyn David (the pen name of Marian Edelman Borden and Rhonda Dosset) will be published in March 2007. Advance reviews for the book hail it as "a fast-paced, engaging read with memorable characters and a plot that never quits."
Jill Amadio's essay, "If You're the Ghostwriter, Know where to Hover," ran in The Los Angeles Times' Sunday magazine, West, eliciting several calls from potential clients. Amadio has ghostwritten nine non-fiction books and one novel. She also is the author of Gunther Rall: Luftwaffe Ace and NATO General, and co-author of My Vagabond Lover: An Intimate Portrait of Rudy Vallee
Seasoned fitness writer Scott Hays' new book, Built for Sex, was released by Rodale Press, publisher of Men's Health. It's based on one simple premise: Every man, whatever his age, diet, or level of fitness, can improve his sex life by making minimal changes in his life. More at www.ScottHays.com
Marian Calabro's book, The Pep Boys: A Company History, took top honors in the writing category of the 2006 MarCom Creative Awards for excellence in marketing communications. The awards drew 5,000 entries internationally. Calabro's company, CorporateHistory.net, has produced books for clients in Maryland, Virginia, and New York
For the second straight spring, Dan Schlossberg's byline appears on two baseball books: Baseball Gold: Mining Nuggets from Our National Pastime (Triumph) and Making Airwaves: 60 Years at Milo's Microphone (Sports Publishing). Dan continues as president of the North American Travel Journalists Association and travel editor of ConsumerAffairs.com
Marci Alboher's book, One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success, was published in February by Warner Books. Dan Pink (Free Agent Nation and A Whole New Mind) calls Alboher "... the Walt Whitman of the new world of work." More at www.heymarci.com
Four of longtime member Bud Feuer's books have been published in paperback by Stackpole Books: The B-24 in China, Packs On!: Memoirs of the 10th Mountain Division in WWII, Australian Commandos: Their Secret War against the Japanese in WWII and Coast Watching in World War II
Linda Eve Diamond completed six books in 2006. The first four were released in January and February: Teambuilding That Gets Results (Sourcebooks), Executive Writing, American Style; A Business Writing Manual for Foreign-Born Professionals (Apocryphile Press), The Human Experience (iUniverse) and Rule #1: Stop Talking; a Guide to Listening (iUniverse)
Elina Furman's new book Kiss and Run: The Single, Picky, and Indecisive Girl's Guide to Overcoming Her Fear of Commitment was released in February from Simon & Schuster/Fireside. Excerpts to appear in Shape, Fitness, and Woman's World magazines, the book can be found online at www.kissrunbook.com
Donna Smallin, author of Unclutter Your Mind, has signed a two-year contract as the organizing and productivity expert for the Westin Renewal Council. The goal of the council is to provide solutions for Westin Hotel's guests, based on a recent study of the physiological and psychological effects of travel
Helene Vorce-Tish's book, Fencing with Danger: Pavel Lubov's True Story, (Publish America) was just released. This is a nonfiction narrative about Pavel, whose bitterness and determination to expose the suppression of individual rights in Russia, provoked numerous beatings and confrontations with the KGB
Lee Pfeiffer's Complete Idiot's Guide to Classic Movies 1915-1969 was just published by Alpha Books. Pfeiffer is also the editor in chief of the classic movie magazine, Cinema Retro (www.cinemaretro.com)
Sharon Naylor's newly-released Renewing Your Wedding Vows: The Complete Guide to Saying 'I Still Do' (Random House, 2006) is the first planning book to tackle the growing trend of wedding vow renewals.
