New and Noteworthy Member Happenings

Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt has two new titles out. She is a contributing editor for Sixty Things To Do When You Turn Sixty, a compilation of sage essays by the likes of Garrison Keillor. She also is the author of a second children's activity book, Amazing Maya Inventions You Can Build Yourself


Allen and Linda Anderson's RESCUED: Saving Animals from Disaster (New World Library 2006), with a foreword by U.S. Sen. John Ensign, includes interviews with hundreds of experts about preparing pets to survive disasters and inspiring stories of animal rescue heroes. Endorsed by ASPCA, American Humane Association, United Animal Nations and Dr. Marc Bekoff
Erin Torneo's The Bridal Wave: A Survival Guide to the Everyone-I-Know-is-Getting-Married-Years was published Jan. 2 by Random House. Liz Tucillo (He's Just Not That Into You) calls the book "a lifesaver" and Kamy Wicoff (i do but i don't) says it's "hilarious, practical and wise." More at thebridalwave.com
Tina B. Tessina, Ph.D., just signed contracts on two relationship books for Adams Media, both to be published in 2007. Adams liked her platform: Website, e-newsletter, "Happiness Tips from Tina" (available at www.tinatessina.com), 11 published books, Redbook Love Network Expert and columnist for Yahoo! Personals
In December, the flagship Starbucks overlooking the castle in Edinburgh, Scotland, unveiled a 2.5x5-foot mural celebrating the work of Erich Hoyt, who has written parts of five books in Starbucks since 1999. The permanent mural displays manuscript pages with coffee stains, book covers, page proofs and photos of Hoyt
Joan Rattner Heilman's new book, Diabetes Survival Guide (Ballantine) was published in October. Written with Stanley Mirsky, M.D., of Mt. Sinai Medical Center, it was originally published as Controlling Diabetes the Easy Way and has been completely rewritten and updated. It will be printed in both trade and mass paperback
Beverly Gray moderated three panels at Screenwriting Expo 5, which attracted thousands of would-be filmmakers to Los Angeles in October. Her panels, which included "Women in the Entertainment Industry," "The Craft of Horror" and "Writing the Low-Budget Independent Film," called upon her expertise as Roger Corman's longtime story editor
Diana Somerville's Inside Out Down Under: Stories from A Spiritual Sabbatical (Beechworth Press, 2006) is "alive with mystery and magic, rich in complexity and ambiguity a glimpse of the world that lies between keen natural observation and the reality of dreams," says one reviewer. Debbie Danowski, Ph.D., is happy to announce the publication of her fourth book, The Emotional Eater's Book of Inspiration: 90 Truths You Need to Know to Overcome Your Food Addiction (Avalon/Marlowe). Deborah Grossman's new book, Goldie and Me, explores the many facets of family, friendship and freedom through the lens of poetry. Grossman is a Bay Area independent food and wine writer, poet and essayist. ASJA member Stephen Regenold has launched the online counterpart to "The Gear Junkie," Regenold's nationally-syndicated newspaper column. TheGearJunkie.com is a site devoted to the outdoors, health, fitness and adventure travel. It launched with hundreds of pages of content, including interactive photo essay slideshows, a blog, feature stories and a weekly gear giveaway contest
Margie Goldsmith has won the 2006 prestigious Travel Classics Contest for her winning essay, "Paolo Soleri and Me: the Artist's Model." This is the second time Goldsmith has won the Travel Classics Contest. In 2002, she won for "The Leatherman," her story about a famous hermit who tramped through the woods in a suit of leather sewn together from scraps
Lynne Lamberg received a 2006 Journalism Award from the Society for Women's Health Research for her October 2005 JAMA Medical News report, "Risks and Benefits Key to Psychotropic Use During Pregnancy and Postpartum Period." According to the Society, "Lamberg chronicles the difficult choices mothers and their physicians face."
Margaret A. Haapoja's article, "Flowering Relationship," published in Midwest Home & Garden magazine's May 2006 issue, won the Silver Award for Best Feature in Special Interest magazines with circulation over 60,000 in the Minnesota Magazine & Publications Association's 10th Annual Minnesota Publishing Excellence Awards.
