New and Noteworthy Member Happenings

Lisa Collier Cool has won two 2005 National Health Information Awards. Her Ladies' Home Journal article, "A Silent Killer," won in the Patient Education Information category, and "What Even Young Women Need to Know About Bone Health," also published by LHJ, won in the Health Promotion/Disease and Injury Prevention Information category


Todd Pitock won a 2005 Lowell Thomas Award gold for a magazine article on foreign travel. The story, about a jaunt into a South African game reserve on horseback with his children, appeared in Endless Vacation
Sydney member Wilson da Silva has won the coveted Editor of the Year prize in Australia's annual Bell Magazine Awards for his work as editor of Cosmos, the new popular science magazine he co-founded. Cosmos was also recognized for Best Cover and commended for the year's best launch
Claudia Dreifus was elected an Honorary Member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. The honor is "reserved for distinguished individuals who have served science, or the Society, in a manner or to a degree that merits such recognition."
The 1st edition of Hilary Davidson's Frommer's New York City Day by Day will be published on January 20. It launches a new series of full-color travel guides for the brand. The 7th edition of her Frommer's Toronto guidebook was published last month
The Turkish version of The Gifts of Change by Nancy Christie has been released by Truva Publishing (Istanbul, Turkey) under the title Degisime var Misiniz (Are You Ready for Change?). The Gifts of Change is also the featured giveaway in the January edition of Military Spouse magazine
Carol Weston, author of Girltalk (3rd edition), gave a talk at the National Coalition of Girls' Schools annual conference in Nashville and keynote speech for a Girl Scout Symposium in San Diego. The Philadelphia Inquirer called her fourth novel, Melanie in Manhattan, "big fun for wise kids and their parents"
The 3rd edition (fully revised and updated) of Caring for Yourself While Caring for Your Aging Parents by Claire Berman is out from Owl Books this month
Andrea Kay announces the early release of her fourth book, Life's a Bitch and Then You Change Careers: 9 Steps to Get Out of Your Funk and On to Your Future, (Stewart, Tabori & Chang). Watch for her "Life's A Bitch" talks at Barnes & Noble bookstores across the U.S.
Mark H. Masse signed copies of his work of literary journalism, Inspired to Serve: Today's Faith Activists, and his novel, Delamore's Dreams, at the Barnes & Noble bookstore, Ball State University, Muncie, IN, on December 1
New member Darrell Trout's fourth book, First Garden: Getting Started in Northeast Gardening, was recently published by Cool Springs Press division of Thomas Nelson.
