Andrea Campbell is the new editor of Identification News, for professional scientists and law enforcement personnel who belong to the International Association for Identification in Arkansas. Andrea will also conduct a workshop for Hardboiled Heroes and Cozy Cats 2005, a conference put on by the Mystery Writers of America's southwest chapter
On June 9, Tarcher/Penguin will release a paperback edition of How the Homosexuals Saved Civilization by Cathy Crimmins. The hardcover version, published last fall, was named one of the Best Books of 2004 by Amazon.com
This August, the Barn Playhouse in New London, New Hampshire, presents the first professional production of Tall Paul, an original musical by Alvin H. "Skip" Reiss. His latest book, The Resource Directory of the Arts will be published this summer
Daylle Deanna Schwartz's book, How to Please a Woman In & Out of Bed, was just released in a revised 2nd edition, following strong sales of the first edition
Lisa Iannucci's latest book, Healthy Travel (Basic Health Publications), co-authored with Dr. Michael Zimring, the director of the Center for Wilderness and Travel Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, will be out this month
Marvin Weisbord's Productive Workplaces: Organizing and Managing for Dignity, Meaning and Community (Jossey-Bass, 1987, 2004) was voted one of the five most influential books of the last 50 years by the Organization Development Network, which gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award last October
Gerry Souter's Frida Kahlo, Beneath the Mirror (Sirroco-Parkstone Publishing, U.K./Paris), an ASJA Writers' Referral lead, was published in the U.K. and Paris in time for a big show of her work at London's Tate Gallery in June. Another ASJA Writers' Referral book, The Founding of America (Carlton Publishing, U.K.), has also been awarded to the Souters
Kim Roth has just launched WritingforNonprofits.org, a free online forum for writers who work with nonprofit organizations. In addition to the forum, the site includes nonprofit news, related books and an e-mail newsletter
Carole Terwilliger Meyers' Weekend Adventures in San Francisco & Northern California was published in its 8th edition in April (Carousel Press). According to Kenny Kramer, the real Kramer, "Carole's guide is to Northern California as my tour is to NYC. Almost. Not that there's anything wrong with that!"
Rita Emmett's book, The Clutter-Busting Handbook (Walker & Co., NY), was released May 15
Mitch Kaplan won the North American Snowsports Journalists Association's Harold S. Hirsch Award for Excellence in Snowsports Journalism in the Web site Writing category. Mitch is also the content editor for Kidznsnow.com, the northern New England correspondent for Onthesnow.com and the ski columnist for The Record newspaper in northern New Jersey
Publishers Weekly (3/28/05) announced that Kitty Kelley's book, The Family: The Real Story of The Bush Dynasty, was the 14th best-selling non-fiction book in the U.S. last year, selling over 715,000 copies. The trade paperback, published in May, contains new material, including an afterword about the author's experience publishing the book
Alan Caruba's opinion editorial, "The Black Plague and its Descendants," was published in the April 13 edition of The Washington Times. Caruba's commentaries, based on his weekly column, "Warning Signs," posted on the Internet site of The National Anxiety Center, are widely disseminated on the Net, appearing on some 40 news and opinion Web sites. (He reminds members with new books to have their publicists send review copies to Bookviews.com, his monthly site noting new fiction and non-fiction)
M. Evans & Company has released the National Directory of Editors & Writers, by Elizabeth Lyon, featuring 530 freelancers in 48 states. Among the profiled contributors are dozens of ASJA members
Helen Pike's award-winning book, Greetings From New Jersey: A Postcard Tour of the Garden State (Rutgers University Press, 2001) is going into a second printing
Lisa Selin Davis' first novel, Belly, will be published by Little, Brown and Co. on July 1. Davis is a freelance journalist in New York City and teaches creative writing at the Pratt Institute
Nolo.com of Berkeley has just published the 10th edition of George Devine's How to Buy a House in California, which he co-authored. He continues to teach real estate classes in the School of Business and Management at the University of San Francisco
Pat McNees was selected for a Plain Language Award (for Excellence) from the National Institute of Health for Building Ten at Fifty, her history of the NIH Clinical Center. Member Judy Sklar Rasminsky, who wrote some of the patient stories in the book, shared in the award. The award also covered "Bench to Bedside and Back," a 15-minute video about the research hospital, for which Pat was executive producer
Joan Detz, author of How To Write & Give A Speech (St. Martin's Press, 3rd edition, 2002), presented "Speaking with Confidence and Clarity" at the annual conference of Columbia Women in Business (held for alumni of Columbia University).
