Karen O'Connor has won the Paul A. Witty Award from the International Reading Association for her article "Free at Last" (about her encounter and friendship with a refugee family from Kurdistan) published in Highlights for Children in 2004


Automotive journalist Tara Baukus Mello is under contract for her tenth children's chapter book, tentatively titled, Women in Racing, to be published next year by Chelsea House
100 Questions and Answers About Panic Disorder (Jones and Bartlett) by Carol W. Berman, M.D. was published last month
Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda has several signings and speaking engagements in Oklahoma promoting her newest, and fourth, book, The Journey: A Guide for the Modern Pilgrim (Loyola Press, 2004). The Journey, Scaperlanda's first book co-authored with her husband Michael Scaperlanda, combines practical understanding and a fresh perspective of what it means to live a pilgrim life
Susan McCullough's latest book, Senior Dogs for Dummies (Wiley), won the 2004 Maxwell Award for best health care book from the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA)
Mark H. Massé has published his novel Delamore's Dreams, a father-son drama set in a gritty metro New York town in the 1960s. It's available through Booklocker.com and other online outlets
Antoinette Bosco's Lent, an Uncommon Love Story, was released by Pauline Books & Media in the week before Ash Wednesday
Cemeteries of New Orleans: A Journey through the Cities of the Dead (Voyageur Press), out this month by Jan Arrigo, chronicles these mysterious, sacred places with unusual tales about corpses, coffins, and crypts. It's Arrigo's second book with photographer Laura McElroy
Nancy Peske co-authored two books that were published in February: Cinematherapy Goes to the Oscars: The Girl's Guide to the Best Movie Medicine Ever Made (Rizzoli Universe, co-authored with Beverly West) and Raising a Sensory Smart Child: A Definitive Handbook for Helping Your Child with Sensory Integration Issues (Penguin, co-authored with Lindsey Biel)
M. L. "Mike" Stein is the author of a short story, "Homecoming," published in the 2005 edition of the annual Dan River Anthology (Dan River Press)
Marlene Fanta Shyer's 12th book for children, Fleabiscuit Sings! will be published this month by Marshall Cavendish. Her last young adult novel was listed as "A Best Children's Book of the Year" by the Bank Street College
Helen-Chantal Pike's fifth book, Asbury Park's Glory Days: The Story of an American Resort, will be released this month from Rutgers University Press ... Mary L. Peachin has signed with NYC literary agents Dystel and Goderich ... This month Anchor Books releases John Pollack's Cork Boat in paperback. First published by Pantheon in hardback last year, the book chronicles the true story of Pollack's quest to build a 22-foot Viking ship out of wine corks, and its 2002 voyage down Portugal's Douro River.
