Roberta Wax received the Society of Professional Journalists' Howard S. Dubin Outstanding Pro Member award, given to "individuals who have made significant contributions to their SPJ chapters and regions.' The award was presented on September 11 at SPJ's national convention in New York, where Wax also spoke on a freelancing panel. Wax has been active in SPJ since college and has served on the Los Angeles chapter's board of directors for more than 20 years, including a stint as president


John Rosengren's Blades of Glory: The True Story of a Young Team Bred to Win will be issued in paperback by Sourcebooks in November. The book, which chronicles a season spent with a high school hockey team and examines issues troubling sports in America, became the best-selling hockey book in the country in its hardcover incarnation
Kristin von Kreisler's latest book, For Bea (Tarcher/Putnam), has just come out in paperback. The book is being translated into Dutch for publication in the Netherlands

The book revolves around the photos of George Kalinsky, the Garden's staff photographer for 38 years, accompanied by essays from Bill Bradley, John McEnroe, Marv Albert, Peggy Fleming and 29 others, written by Stern
Linda Lawrence Hunt's book Bold Spirit: Helga Estby's Forgotten Walk Across Victorian America won the national 2004 WILLA (Cather) Literary Award for non-fiction, and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award. Anchor Books/Random House will release it in January
Randy Myers has won a global Articles of Merit award for the second consecutive year from the International Federation of Accountants for "Ensuring Ethical Effectiveness,' published in the February 2003 issue of the Journal of Accountancy. The article will be included in an anthology to be published by the IFAC
