Steve Kemper's Code Name Ginger (Harvard Business School Press, 2003), about Dean Kamen and the invention of the Segway, is one of 21 books selected this fall by Barnes & Noble for its program, "Discover Great New Writers"

Ada P. Kahn, Ph.D.'s Phobias, for children 10-13, will be released this fall by Scholastic, NY
Gloria Hochman participated in a workshop at Columbia University sponsored by the School of Journalism and the Department of Psychiatry for writers and editors around the country to improve understanding of writing about children's mental health issues. She was also honored by the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society at the Benjamin Ball at the Philadelphia Cricket Club and presented with the Society's Media Award for her body of work on mental illness
Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D., a.k.a. "Dr. Toy," was quoted in People magazine's September 8 issue, page 128, in the section: "Games Families Play"
Book authors Janet and Gerry Souter answered an ASJA Referral request and received commissions for coffee table monographs on artists Georgia O'Keeffe and Frida Kahlo from Parkstone Press in Paris to be translated into French, German and English. They must deliver 25,000 words for each book by mid-month
A new edition of Tina Tessina's book, Gay Relationships, is being published by Tarcher/Putnam with a new cover, foreword and appendix. Her radio show, "The Psyche Deli" is moving from KUCI to WPMD.org and BookCrazy.net, and will be archived on www.CouplesCompany.com
Cheryl Solimini recently recorded three of her humor essays (one of which had already appeared in Family Circle magazine) for broadcast on Northeast Public Radio in Albany, NY. The first, "The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread?", aired on August 18

John Rosengren chronicles a season with a high school hockey powerhouse in his new book Blades of Glory: The Story of a Young Team Bred to Win (Sourcebooks, released this month)
The University of Wisconsin Press just reissued the first four books in long-time members Judi Kesselman-Turkel and Franklynn Peterson's Study Smart Series, first published in the early ‘80s: The Grammar Cram-mer (How to Write Perfect Sentences), Research Shortcuts, Note-Taking Made Easy and Secrets to Writing Great Papers. Still priced at $6.95 each, they sold hundreds of thousands of copies with Contemporary Books
Michele Meyer, a national health, fitness, beauty, marketing, celebrities and True Life Drama freelance writer, won bronze in the 2003 National Mature Media Awards for a story on body scans for AARP Bulletin. She also was profiled as a Profile of Success on the professional writers' Web site FreelanceSuccess.com
Cirque Du Soleil: Fire Within, a TV series written by Cleo Paskal, has just won the Emmy for Outstanding Nonfiction Program.
