W. Thomas Smith Jr.'s newly released Encyclopedia of the Central Intelligence Agency (Checkmark Books/Facts On File) was excerpted in The New York Post. His forthcoming book, Decisive 20th-Century American Battles (Alpha Books/Penguin USA), will be released in November-December. Also, he was recently named to the advisory board of the Southern Literature Council of Charleston


Florence Temko's Origami Holiday Decorations, subtitled "For Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa," has just been published by Tuttle Publications and is now in stores. This is the second in a series of five books
Susanne M. Alexander has co-authored a Pearson Longman textbook, College & Career Success Simplified, to assist college students with study, life and workplace skills. Along with her husband, Craig A. Farnsworth and Johanna Merritt Wu, Ph.D., she has also released the second edition of Marriage Can Be Forever—Preparation Counts!
Susan Newman's new book, Nobody's Baby Now: Reinventing Your Adult Relationship with Your Mother and Father (Walker & Company), was the focus of a Time magazine Q&A written by ASJA member, Sally Stich
Linda Lawrence Hunt's book Bold Spirit: Helga Estby's Forgotten Walk Across Victorian America (University of Idaho Press), released last May, made the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association list twice this summer, and is already into the third printing
Judith Kelman's 13th suspense novel, Every Step You Take, was released in September by Putnam
Marie Proeller Hueston's third book, Country Living Cottage Style, is due out this month from Hearst Books. Her previous books, Country Living Guide to the Best Flea Markets and Country Living Decorating with Flea Market Finds, were published by Hearst Books in 2002
Kackie Cohen's first book, Windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access Service (New Riders, May 2000), has been translated into Chinese by China Machine Press. She also co-authored a second book, Advanced Windows XP Networking, to be published by Addison-Wesley in November 2003
Susan Shapiro Barash will publish The New Wife: The Evolving Role Of The American Wife in December 2003. Most recently, Barash has been on Good Morning America, CNN/Paula Zahn, Fox News, and The O'Reilly Factor for A Passion For More: Wives Reveal the Affairs That Make or Break Their Marriages
Gordon Burgett's second, updated edition of How to Create Your Own Super Second Life was released in September with a new title: How to Plan a Great Second Life. On the same date, the publisher, Communication Unlimited, released Gordon's first novel (and 25th book): Lian McAndrews and the Perfect Human World
Karen Feld, a Washington, D.C. communicator, is a top winner in the annual National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) communications contest. Feld, the voice and soul of Capital Connections, was awarded first place for her Web site, www.karenfeld.com
Dave Jaffe has won the 2003 Parenting Publications of America Gold Award for Humor. Karen Hammond is the recipient of the 2002 Jerry Morris Master Writer Award for her article, "Thanksgiving É honestly," which appeared last November in the Boston Globe and other national newspapers. The article was distributed through Travel Arts Syndicate, of which ASJA member Terese Loeb-Kreuzer is editor in chief
Nancy Muenker's guidebook, Colorado Front Range Scenic & Historic Byways (Altitude Publishing Ltd.), has just been released. She recently won a Gold Award for her Denver Post column, "Scenic Byways," and a Silver Award for Colorado Front Range History Explorer from the Society of American Travel Writers, western chapter

Lauraine Snelling is celebrating her 20th anniversary as an author. She has sold over 2 million books during her career. Lauraine's newest novel Ruby, the first book in the Dakotah Treasures series, is now available in bookstores
Beverly Gray, author of Roger Corman: An Unauthorized Biography of the Godfather of Indie Filmmaking (Renaissance Books, 2000) and Ron Howard: From Mayberry to the Moon . . . and Beyond (Rutledge Hill Press, 2003), has been invited to Tokyo to conduct a three-day seminar for Japanese film students É The favorable reviews have been pouring in for Passionada, the film written by ASJA member Steve Jermanok and brother Jim. Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times writes, "The Jermanoks strive for and achieve a light romantic comedy with humorous, fanciful plotting yet shaded by genuine tenderness and passion." Rex Reed of the New York Observer notes that Passionada is "greatly enhanced by fresh dialogue." And those icons of film criticism, Ebert and Roeper, gave it an enthusiastic Two Thumbs Up É Run, Dogs, Run! by Hal Higdon and Dana Summers began online several years ago in both static and animated versions at www.halhigdon.com, but the book for beginning readers is now available in a print edition from Roadrunner Press. It's Higdon's 34rd published book and his first children's book in several decades É Gloria Hochman recently won an award for Excellence in Magazine Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists for "When Your Mo-ther Is ‘Crazy'" about children who grow up with mentally ill parents. Nancy S. Grant recently won two Willie Awards from the Statewide Editors Association of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
